John Knecht is an international Film Director, Creative Director and Writer whose work includes award-winning television commercials, music videos, episodic online comedy sketches and short films.
He's worked in America and Europe at advertising agencies Goodby Silverstein & Partners San Francisco, 180 Amsterdam, BBDO, McCANN, FCB and has had the privilege of film Directing, creative directing and writing for CAVIAR, Apple, 72andSunny, 180LA, KesselsKramer London & Amsterdam, HSI Productions, BBH, Mistress, JWT, Saatchi & Saatchi, DDB, Publicis, Razorfish, just to name more than a few. His work has been awarded Grand Prix Lion at Cannes (twice), Titanium Lion at Cannes, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA), British Arrows Diploma International, The One Show, Art Director's Club, D&AD, London International, AICP, multiple Effie awards and other strange sounding accolades his friends and family may never fully understand.
He directed FunnyOrDie’s debut internet movie, The Don Dolmes Story, an 18 minute short film starring Seth Morris, Ballers’ Rob Corddry, Don’t Look Up’s Adam McKay, The League’s Jason Mantzoukas & Paul Scheer, and 24’s Mary Lynn Rajskub. With 11 million views and counting, it's exceeded absurd expectations absurdly.
He’s perpetually working on a photo-journalist book about touring bands, with stories and photographs from bands such as The Walkmen, Beach House, Girl Talk, Broken Social Scene, Ben Kweller, Camper Van Beethoven, The French Kicks and so many more. Amazing bands, incredible stories.
John currently lives on an island near Seattle with his wife Kate, their two wildling sons, a dog, a cat and a bunch of super tall trees.
